Mr. Tihipko explained that the Party of Regions is generally supportive of the campaign's principles, but it will not make any specific steps to clean up the party ticket, which is evident from the reply of the Deputy Chairman of the Party of Regions.
"We share the values defended by the CHESNO initiative, and are prepared to co-operate with it and with other civic movements advocating honest and free elections, and the development of democracy in Ukraine", Serhii Tihipko's answer goes.
The politician has added that "we are open to the co-operation with all the non-governmental organisations and civic initiatives − both Ukrainian and international. But it is not necessary to conclude agreements or even exclusive agreements with one organisation, thus restricting the opportunities for the co-operation with other representatives of the civil society".
At the same time, CHESNO campaigners stress that the CHESNO criteria are merely the requirements of the current legislation. "The Ukrainian society is entitled to the compliance of parliamentarians with the Constitution and Laws of Ukraine". However, they consider it to be an exclusive approach, and can hardly decide to apply it. One of the examples is the unconstitutional "button playing", Svitlana Zalishchuk, a member of the CHESNO Co-ordination Council, commented on the reply by the Deputy Chairman of the Party of Regions.
The CHESNO campaign will continue monitoring the systemic violations of the constitutional provision and the demand of the CHESNO campaign to cast own votes in the parliament on the part of MPs representing the Party of Regions. This is confirmed, for instance, by the scandalous vote on the "language law" on 3 July.
The first discussion of the integrity criteria and demands of the civil society for the candidates with the Party of Regions took place on 14 May during the meeting of the CHESNO campaigners with Serhii Tihipko. At the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the Party of Regions promised that an agreement with CHESNO will be considered by the party's secretariat for the possibility of signing it. After the detailed review of the document, the Party of Regions refused to sign a co-operation agreement with the CHESNO campaign.
